The Lord’s invitation is for you. His promises are for you. So you stand at a fork in the road and must choose a path. The path we choose is determined by choices we make. Therefore, we must examine the power of decisions. Each one, though seemingly small, determines the path and outcome of our lives.

Understanding the power of decisions, we must turn to the Lord in order to find guidance in our decision making. Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us a tremendous admonition: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” To trust in the Lord instead of ourselves is vital. As Jeremiah said, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”.

God has promised to be our guide and help for life. James wrote, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (1:5). As we ask in prayer, we seek in study. We are reminded again to “rightly interpret the word” (2 Timothy 2:15) so that we can have the right answers to the questions of life, make the right decisions for life, and find the right destination at the end of life.

But there will always be a struggle between what the Lord has instructed us and what we would rather do. However, we know that our loving Father has our best as his goal. So, we must practice Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” We should be careful to note the concept of “all” in exhortations like“seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” and “in all your ways acknowledge him”. If we allow one area of our life to be outside His lordship, then that unprotected barrier is where Satan will seek to ruin our happy life.

Let us look to the Lord for his guidance into the abundant life he offers.
