It is great to be a Christian! We have wonderful opportunities to work for God and with God. It is important for us to keep that perspective. While God is gracious enough to allow us to invest in his kingdom, we are not the King.

The church exists for His glory. “He is before all things, and by him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.” (Colossians 1:17-18). God has planned the work of the church before the universe was formed–“for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). 1 Peter 2:5 says that Christians are “living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

Before we try to do anything for God, we should seek for what has God planned for us to do in the Scripture. If we implement our plans over his: we deny God his sovereign rule over his individual people and his church; we rob his glory for our own; we rebel against the authority of His Scripture; and we create division among God’s family. When we trust God and therefore yield to his Scriptural plan, then we honor him by submitting to him; we glorify him by doing his work his way; we honor him by giving him the glory following his plan; and we can have confidence before him because we have been faithful to his will.

As we look to serve God and honor him, let us always trust him to accomplish his will in his ways.
